The long goodbye.
The final day of a road trip always has its own personality.
There’s less talking. More staring out the window. A soft, shared understanding that something good is ending and reality is waiting patiently down the road. Day Four of our first Alabama road trip was exactly that—simple, meaningful, and intentionally slow.
We only had one real stop planned, and that felt right. One last experience to savor before turning south and heading home.

Stop #23: Dothan
We woke up in Dothan knowing it was our last full day on the road. No rushing, no cramming in extra stops—just caffeine, quiet packing, and that familiar end-of-trip heaviness settling in.
Dothan had been good to us. It felt like the right place to start the long goodbye.
Stop #24: Florida Caverns State Park
This was our first visit to Florida Caverns State Park, and we kept it simple—we came for the cave tour, and the cave tour alone.
It was busy. Very peopley.
So we did what we do best: hung back at the very end of the group.
That small choice made all the difference.

The caverns were stunning—cool air, dripping stone, ancient formations shaped by time and water and patience. We took our time, lingered behind, and ended up with some incredible photos without ever feeling crowded.
We didn’t explore the rest of the park that day, and honestly? We didn’t need to. The caves were enough. More than enough.
Pro Tip: If tours are crowded, hang back. The experience changes completely when you give the space time to breathe.
Stop #25: Orlando
And then… the road turned familiar.
The miles ticked by. The conversations slowed. The trip energy gently folded itself away as we crossed back into Orlando—back into routines, responsibilities, and everyday life.
The trip was officially over.

🚗 Road Notes & Lessons Learned
- Final days don’t need to be busy to be meaningful
- One intentional stop is often better than five rushed ones
- The quiet on the drive home is part of the journey—not something to fix
🌅 Day Four Reflections
The last day of a road trip is always bittersweet.
We’re usually quieter—not because we’re bored, but because we’re already processing the return to reality. The lists. The schedules. The responsibilities waiting patiently where we left them.
Florida Caverns gave us a soft landing. A moment of wonder before the door closed on this chapter. It reminded us that even at the end of a journey, there’s still beauty worth slowing down for.
That’s the thing about road trips—they don’t really end.
They just settle in, becoming stories you carry with you long after the bags are unpacked.
